17. Ford Model: Focus 1.4 Zetec. Posted July 4, 2011. Hi all, I've got a 1.4 Petrol Mk1 CL Model. For the last few months there has been a lag between turning the ignition key and the starter motor turning. Now it's never been a problem and it still starts first time. However, recently it has needed a few attempts to get it going.

Check or replace the fuse #13 in the battery junction box located under the hood by the battery (left side). If it still will not crank over, since you have a voltage tester, go ahead and remove that starter relay and test for voltage in the socket with the key off, then key on start.
